Big jobs take time

Big jobs take time

Most big builders will give us approximately 7-8 days (work days not weekend days) to board and tape a house. This does not include painting.  On a full house projects I usually have 3 to 4 guys on the taping crew and the same on the hanging which includes the ceiling which can take a long time depending on how sculptured the ceilings are.

It seems pretty unrealistic considering drying times to complete the job in a week but that is our goal depending on the size of the home.   Our houses are usually 3000 – 6000 sqft with around 60 – 90 corner bead.

Our time estimates usually depend on other vendors completing their jobs on time.  If the electrician and the plumbers are not done with their work and we have to come back then that will add time to our project.  It’s pretty rare that a large home will be onetime and on schedule.  If the home is left to us all by ourselves we can get our job done in the 7-8 day time range.

Painting the house is another matter altogether and our paint crew will follow behind the finishers starting at the first portion done as that portion of the home will have had plenty of time to dry and prime for paint.

If you want to do some math and figure out how many sheets of drywall a big house job will need its pretty easy to do but a job that big would start to wear you down after awhile. For us that comes out to roughly 200-300 sheets, That is our ‘normal’ job size on sheet count, but not the bead count. or about 50 sheets completed in one day.  That’s a lot of work.
